Proxy Detector - Privacy Policy
Description & Purpose
Proxy Detector is a lightweight Chrome/Edge extension created to quickly determine how
the browser is routing network traffic and what public IP address websites see.
The extension helps answer questions like:
- Is the browser using a proxy?
- Did my public IP change?
- Is a PAC (Proxy Auto-Configuration) script active?
- Did enabling/disabling a VPN affect my connection?
Features
- Displays the current proxy mode (direct, system, auto_detect, pac_script, fixed_servers)
- Shows proxy host and port if manually configured
- Displays PAC script usage
- Shows public IP address retrieved from
https://api.ipify.org
- Detects network/routing changes using a local baseline IP
- Warns when traffic appears to be routed through a proxy
Limitations
- Cannot inspect traffic from other apps; only browser traffic
- Cannot read encrypted VPN configurations directly
- Cannot determine which websites use specific proxies
Privacy Policy
Proxy Detector does not collect, store, sell, share, or transmit
personal or identifiable user data. All operations occur locally in the browser.
-
Proxy Settings: Reads the browser’s proxy configuration using
built-in APIs. Processed locally only.
-
Public IP Address: Retrieved directly from
https://api.ipify.org
for display only. Not logged or transmitted elsewhere.
-
Local Storage: Stores baseline IP for network change detection. Remains local.
Data Sharing & Security
No data is shared with the developer, advertisers, or third parties. The extension
does not operate backend servers.
